Introduction

It has been a long time coming for New South Wales to have its first Women’s fully-equipped body contact sport. Women have voiced their interest in this fast-paced sport in Australia where there has been a high volume of growth shown in the past years.

We support and encourage all women participants to join in by getting registered with UTS Gridiron. For more information about joining UTS Gridiron, either as a player or support staff, fill out our New Player Interest form on the right and we will be in touch and keep you up to date with all things UTS Gridiron Football Club. Frequently Asked Questions

What format does the WGNSW play under?

The WGNSW games were initially played in seven (7) a side format, on a full size field that attracted spectators every week for its very open space & high scoring games.  Beginning in 2016, the format was updated to nine (9) a side competition which placed more emphasis on each team’s blocking schemes to create the open space they were accustomed to in the past.  However, in order to draw more teams for the 2017 season, the format will revert back to the 7 a side format. The rules are sanctioned by Gridiron Australia (GA) with the uniform and equipment worn mandatory as per American College rules (NCAA).

When do the seasons run?

Women’s competition will commence in September and conclude with the Opal Bowl in December in conjunction with Division 1 Men’s and Colts Competition. Pre-season training commences before the start of the season and throughout the regular season.
