Division 1 Remains Undefeated

As the mercury in Sydney rose, so too did the heat on the field at Neptune Park as your UTS Gators Women and Division One teams took to the field.  The Women Gators kicked off the action against the reigning champion UNSW Raiders.  The Gators got off to a great start, leading at halftime, 14-6.  Fighting hard to the final whistle, they just weren’t quite able to come away with the win, eventually going down 14-20 in a nail-biter. Your Gator women will look to avenge their loss in three weeks as they once again face the Raiders at David Phillips Field on October 14th at 2:00pm.

Kicking off under the lights, your UTS Gators Division One team faced a Central Coast Sharks team that has upset them in each of their meetings in the past two seasons.  This year’s Gators are healthier and hungrier than ever and raced off to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter.  Some of the spark faded from the offense, however, and 2 critical mistakes let the Sharks back in the game in the 3rd quarter putting the score at 15-14 heading into the 4th quarter.  A continued monster effort on defense kept the Sharks at bay and a renewed running game put the Gators back in the endzone once more to seal the victory and preserve the unbeaten season.

There will be no games this coming weekend, as Gridiron NSW celebrates the Labour Day long weekend.  Your UTS Gator Colts and Division 1 will be back in action on October 7th for another round of home games at Neptune Park, Revesby.  Be sure to come down and cheer your Gators on to victory!

Gators Open Season Unbeaten

Your UTS Gators traveled south to Corrimal (Wollongong) for their season openers this past Saturday and all three teams came to play! Getting the day off to a good start, the Gator Colts faced off against the defending GNSW Colts champion Sutherland Seahawks. With a very gutsy effort, your boys walked away with a 28-28 tie against a very physical team.

Following the Gator Colts lead, our Women Gators came out firing and racked up a 22-14 win against the newly formed North Sydney Rebels Women’s team. The Gator Women fought to the very end to secure the first UTS victory of 2017.

To finalize the day, the Division One Gators faced a young determined foe in the Sutherland Seahawks. Youth and vigor was no match for the experience and strength of your UTS Gators Men as they came home victors 20-16.

Join us next Saturday at Neptune Park, Revesby, for our home opener as all three teams will be in action against the North Sydney Rebels. The Women Gators will kick off the excitement at 12:00 noon in a rematch of their season opener. Next, the Gator Colts will take to the gridiron at 2:00pm and the culmination of our home opener series will see the Gator Men take the field at 4:00pm.

Gator Colts Continue Winning Ways

This Saturday saw your UTS Gators host the UNSW Raiders at our home field, Neptune Park, Revesby.  The women got the action started in a very hard-hitting game. Our women fought their hearts out to the final whistle but just couldn’t withstand the Raiders charge, falling 30 – 0.

Our Colts were up next. Facing a very strong Raider running game, the Gator Defense was up to the challenge keeping their opponents contained for most of the game. The Gators were able to move the ball on the ground and in the air and a late game interception by Blake King set up the winning score for the Gators to remain undefeated.

Finishing off the day, the depleted Division 1 Gators faced the Raiders en mass. Boasting a much larger and healthier squad, the Raiders were able to outlast The Gators with several late game scores being the difference in an otherwise very even match.  As with the Gator Women’s result, the final score of 26 – 8 does not accurately show the heart and determination your Gators squad displayed.

Next Saturday, October 1st, the Gators Colts and Division 1 travel up to Creek Reserve, near Newcastle, to face the Central Coast Sharks. The Colts get started at 11:00 am while Division 1 is set for a 3:00 pm kickoff.  Make a weekend of it and come on out to cheer your UTS Gators on to VICTORY!

Gator Colts drown the Ducks

The colts Gators came out firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s match-up against the Nepean Ducks.  The Gators were virtually unstoppable on the ground all day but when they needed an aerial strike to get out of trouble, the boys answered in style. A very stout performance by the defense rounded out a great victory by the Gators, defeating the Ducks 36 – 12.

Division 1, still reeling from several injuries suffered last week, fought valiantly against the Ducks but were unable to withstand their healthier opponent, losing 27 – 14.

Next week, the Gators return to our home field, Neptune Park, Revesby, to contest the UNSW Raiders in all 3 divisions.  The action kicks off at 1:00 pm with the Women, followed by the Colts at 3:00 pm and culminating with Division 1 at 6:00 pm.

Be sure to come out and cheer on your UTS Gators and enjoy a sausage sizzle and cold drink.  There’s a playground for kids too!

Gator Colts Break 5 Year Drought Against Cubs

Saturday’s comfortable 28-14 win over Sydney University marks the first time in 5 years our boys have triumphed over the Cubs in the G-NSW Colts competition. A dominating performance in the run game put us in the win column.

Our Gator women got off to a slow start in the first half and despite out-playing the Phoenix in the second, they were unable to erase the deficit, losing 20-8 in a good-spirited yet hard fought game.

Division 1 came out guns-a-blazing against the Lions of Sydney University, taking the early lead before the last play of the 1st half which put Sydney Uni up by 3 at half on a hail-mary pass.

Next week sees both the Colts and Division 1 teams take on the Nepean Ducks at our home field, Neptune Park, Revesby, while the Women have a bye.
