The 2008 NRL Season is fast approaching, getting under way Friday the 14th March.

So if you’re interested to get involved in the UTS NRL Tipping Comp for 2008 below are the details on how to go about it.

The cost to enter for the entire season (which includes the NRL Finals) is only $20.

The format will involve selecting the winners of the weekly games.

For that you receive:

• 1 point for tipping the correct winning team
• 2 points for tipping a draw
• 3 bonus points for tipping the round

If selections are not received by to the cut off time of that round you will receive 1 point less then lowest point getter for that round (e.g. lowest score received is 3 points, then you will get 2 points).

You as the tipper are responsible for submitting your tips through the Oztips website (Oztips send out reminders). Alternatively you can SMS me you tips (by the required cut off point) and I can update your tips for you being the Competition Manager. My Number in case you don’t have it is 0418 600 326.

The allocated list of Prize money has been set at 1st (60%), 2nd (25%) & 3rd (15%). Also the genuine Last Place getter will receive their $20 money back (only eligible if all tips for each round have been submitted).

5) Arrange Payment. Payment can be made in a number of ways

The UTS Gridiron Club Presentation for season 2007 is being held at the James Squire Brewhouse on Sunday 9th March commencing at 2pm.

Dress Code will be Semi Formal, so don’t turn up wearing shorts and t/shirt and expect to get in otherwise you will be turned away.

It’s very important that you also RSVP for yourself and anyone that you will be attending with you. Don’t just assume that you can turn up unannounced. You won’t be on the guest list and there won’t be any cater food for you.

All money is required in full by the allocated cut off date to confirm your booking. The reason money is required up front is because over the past few years the club has lost money paying for people who don’t show up. So this time money is required in full prior to the function.

If you could also send me an email with your guest’s names this way they can be added to the list of people attending.

I will also inform you that the club is very close to securing James Squire Brewhouse as our sponsor throughout the year so let’s put on a good front for them and show what our club is really about.

Superbowl XLII is being played on Monday 4th February with kick off scheduled for 10am.

UTS Gridiron has booked a VIP area in the James Squire Brewhouse & Restaurant located @ 22 The Promenade, King St Warf.

We also have organized a $15 buffet breakfast which starts at 9:30am for those early risers. However it’s imperative we know the numbers on who will be attending for catering purposes.

As promised the club has planned a BBQ for this Saturday (17 November), with details as follows:

Location – Centennial Park, Randwick (Enter the park via the Darley Rd Entrance which is off Allison Rd near the Randwick racecourse) Refer to google maps for details.

Food – The club has $100 which was won at the recent UTS Clubs trivia night to put towards some food & drinks. (I’m thinking a combination of meats/salads/bread and drinks) for all to share.

Plan – Some of us are aiming to get down there nice and early (around 10am) to secure a BBQ. So feel free to rock up from anytime after 10am. Food should be on about 12/12:30. This should be a good opportunity to sit back and relax in the park, throw round the footy, have a good feed, discuss issues such as the impending election, or simply bask in the sun.

All are welcome, including friends and family of UTS Gridiron.

If you could try and give some indication as to your attendance so we can plan estimated food requirements, apart from that – hope to see you there.

We’ve organised bowling for this Friday (16 November). It would be good for everyone to make an effort as this is a team bonding exercise – and fun!

We are taking the “pub and bowl package”. This consists of dinner at the Newmarket Hotel, and then bowling next door at Manhattan Bowl.

We have two Menu options:

Menu A

• Choice of beef/chicken or Vege burger with a side of chips
• $37 pp

OR

Menu B

• Choice of rump steak + salad and chips
• Chicken snitzel + salad and chips
• Basil & ricotta gnocchi smothered in a roasted tomato sauce with toasted pine nuts & shaved parmesan
• $42pp

The menus are NOT for individual choice – we have to make a group choice for either Menu A or B – as this is the package for pub and bowl.

The lane has been booked so please get back to me by TUESDAY with which Menu we want to go with.

A search box has been added to all pages. Just type in what you’re looking for and click search. Please note though Google search is not enabled within the MyTeam area, only pages from the public site.

The previous MyTeam password has now expired and only the current season’s password is now valid. Players who do not have access please get the details at training, or email webmaster.

Congratulations to James Kerr, the lucky winner of the trip to State of Origin 1 held in Queensland.

A big thankyou for all who purchased raffle tickets. The money raised went towards 3 of our colts players (Danny Noonan, Beau Payne & Dane Ferrara) who had been selected on the NSW Wolverines State squad heading to the Gold Coast for the Junior Nationals.
