Gridiron NSW Moves Colts Season to August

This past week, UTS Gridiron, along with all clubs in the Gridiron NSW competition, were informed by the GNSW Executive Committee that a decision had been made to move the Colts (Juniors) season from the traditional time period of March through May to starting in August/September in line with the men’s Division 1 and Women’s competition. As the UTS Titans were well into preseason training for the expected 2015 season, this of course is not the most welcome of changes. The club is already working through strategies to cater to this new requirement and will release information on when all 3 teams will begin their preseason for the new 2015 competitions.

This change does not mean that the UTS Gridiron Club will be idle through the first part of the year. This change will hopefully allow for more focus on, and expansion of, the successful Social Flag competition that is open to all ages and genders, which is hoped to move back to the main UTS Broadway campus and the Ross Milbourne Sports Hall. Early in the new year a calendar of social events should be released of activities open to all UTS Gridiron members, friends of the club, and those looking to join in 2015 and plans are being made to increase the commitment the club has to Junior Gridiron, across the Colts age group along with ages below this.

To all current Colts players and those who are looking to play in 2015 – we ask you to please bear with us while we adapt to the changes that are coming through. Keep in touch with the club and register your interest via the New Player Interest form. Our Coaches and Management teams will keep you updated with events and provide help on how to ensure you are ready for preseason.

With the UTS Gators Women’s team taking home the championship for 2014, the benchmark has been set for not just their efforts but for the Colts and Division 1 teams to emulate. The UTS trophy cabinet now has an Opal Bowl trophy that is eagerly awaiting the company of a sister Opal Bowl trophy, and Kookaburra and Waratah Bowl brothers to match. It’s exciting to see the eagerness of club members to make this a reality, and we hope that those looking to get involved in this sport will join us in achieving it.
