UTS Gators defeat UNSW in playoffs

As the dust settles and Round 1 of the playoffs comes to a close, 2 of 3 Gators teams remain alive in their championship hunts.

Women:
The Gator Women advance to Opal Bowl III after their playoff opponents, #3 ranked Newcastle Cobras were unable to field a team. They will face the #1 ranked UNSW Raiders for the NSW State Championship on Saturday, December 19th. Kickoff is at 12:00 noon at David Phillips Field, Daceyville.
Colts:
Despite a valiant effort, the Gators’ season has come to an end following an 8 – 24 playoff loss to the West Sydney Pirates. 2015 has been a tough season for our boys but throughout it all, your UTS Gators Colts have shown great sportsmanship, teamwork and heart. Congratulations to all of our Colts players for a job well done and we look forward to our championship drive next year.
Division 1:
Despite losing to UNSW in week 8 of the regular season, 11 to 7, UTS came into today’s first round playoff game confident of victory following two solid weeks of preparation and the return of several key players from injury. The Gators took the early lead and never trailed in a close, hard-fought contest which came down to the final series, in which the Gator defense shut down the Raiders passing attack to secure the victory, 21 – 15. The Gators now move on to face the #1 ranked Sydney University Lions next week, Saturday December 12th. Kickoff is at 6:00pm at David Phillips Field, Daceyville.
Your UTS Gators need your support to help push them to the Championship! Come on out to David Phillips Field this Saturday, December 12th at 6:00pm to cheer on the Division 1 Gators as they fight for a spot in the 2015 Waratah Bowl and the 2015 NSW State Championship!

UTS Gators are Playoff Bound!

UTS-Womens-vs-phoenix-2015

At the conclusion of the 2015 regular season, all three UTS Gator teams are headed to the Gridiron NSW Playoffs. Each team has fought through a lot of adversity and has overcome huge obstacles to qualify for post-season play.

Division 1:
The Gator Men finished their season on November 21st, dropping a heart-breaker that went down to the wire 22 – 28, to the #3 Northwestern Predators. It was a gutsy effort by a very depleted Gator squad. Next week sees the #5 Gators face #4 UNSW Raiders as they look to keep their Championship hopes alive. Kickoff is at 1:00pm at David Phillips Field, UNSW.
Women:
The Gator Women finished up their season against the league-leading UNSW Raiders. The Gators put in a terrific effort giving the Raiders a good scare, keeping the game tied 14 – 14 at the half before finally losing pace and losing 18 – 36. While the final score is not what they wanted, the performance the Gator Women put in speaks volumes to their heart and focus at this critical point in the season. The #2 Women Gators will face the #3 Newcastle Cobras in their semi-final next week. Kickoff is at 11:00am at David Phillips Field, UNSW.
Colts:
The Colts Gators closed the 2015 regular season with a solid victory over the #6 Wollongong Brumbies, 20 – 10. The win builds some much needed confidence and tempo as the #5 Gators head into the playoffs next week facing the #4 West Sydney Pirates at 11:00am at David Phillips Field, UNSW.
Your UTS Gators need your support to help push them to the Championship! Come on out to David Phillips Field on the campus of UNSW this Saturday, December 5th at 11:00am as the women and colts compete in their playoff games, then stay for the Division 1 playoff at 1:00pm and cheer the Gators on to VICTORY!

Week 5 – Women Gators Triumphant while D1, Colts Fall

Gator Women Pass

Under sunny skies, the UTS Gridiron Club hosted its first true home games of the 2015 season at Neptune Park in Revesby.

Women:
The Gator Women opened the action in dominant fashion, demolishing the Newcastle Cobras 36 – 0 in a very physical contest that saw several players suffer severe injuries on both teams. The win moves the Gators to 2nd place with a 2 – 1 record.
Colts:
The Colts Gators faced the Western Sydney Pirates in what was undoubtedly the game of the day. The Gators fought tooth and nail with the Pirates for the entire match, falling just short at the final whistle 6 – 8. It was a disappointing result after a fantastic fight by our boys and drops them to 3rd in the standings with a record of 1 – 1.
Division 1:
The Gator Men came out strong against the Western Sydney Pirates with a solid offensive drive to open the game but were unable to turn it into points. The Pirates, however fought back and following a string of injuries to several stand-out Gators, Western Sydney took control of the game, handing the Gators their first loss of the season, dropping to 3 – 1 but maintaining 4th place in the standings.

Gators Win Season Openers

All three UTS Gators teams have come away with wins in their respective season openers.

The Gators Division One team took to the field first against the Nepean Ducks and thanks to a solid effort by the defense, secured the win 32 – 0.

The Gators Colts were next, facing the Northwestern Panthers. The Gators out-muscled the Panthers to the tune of 26 points to zero.

And finally, the women Gators started their State Championship defense in strong form, downing the Northwestern Phoenix 26 – 16.

Be sure to rally behind the Gators Division One team as they take on the Northern Sydney Rebels next week at 11:00am, at The Square. The women and colts teams both have byes.
