UTS Gridiron

Both the League and UTS have a couple of functions booked that require you to RSVP please see below dates. If UTS makes the Grand Final, we are also looking at holding a function to celebrate the achievement.

1) NSWGFL Presentation – The league presentation will be held on Sunday, 26th November at Kyeemagh RSL, 12 noon. The cost is $30 per person for a buffet lunch. Please RSVP with Matt Steel asap if you wish to attend. Email president.

2) NSWGFL 2006 Waratah Bowl – The 2006 Grand Final will be held on Saturday, 2nd December. Venue & Time is TBA.

3) End of Season Trip - Will take place on Friday 15th Dec - Saturday 16th Dec at Burrill Lake Tourist Park, Ulladulla. Cost is $35 a night or $60 for both nights. Please RSVP with Jason Whitaker asap if you would like to come. Contact Jason email secretary.

The UTS Clubs and Societies trivia night will be held on Wednesday May 10, in the Glasshouse Bar (UTS Broadway). Start time to be confirmed shortly. Entry is $5 per person, with eight people on a table. It’s a good night, trivia with cheap drinks, and supports the UTS Union. Prizes are also on offer. Please contact Simon Irrgang if you interested in attending by Thursday 27th. Friends & Family are welcome.

After a disappointing turn-out, there wasn’t much voting at the 2006 AGM. Congratulations, however, goes to the following members who will be your executive new team for 2006:

The AGM is a chance for club members to vote for the UTS executive team. It will take place at 12:00pm on Sunday, 19th February, at The Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club, Marine Parade, Maroubra. The Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club is the pink colored building on the Beach side of Marine Pde. Entry is from the promenade (walkway) side.

This meeting is very important for all club members to attend and vote on all executive positions. If you aren’t already aware all executive members from 2005 stand down from current positions and have to be reelected if they choose to run for the position again or make themselves available to other positions.

Executive positions that are within the club are: President (currently held by Matt Steel), Vice President (currently held by Essa Lakmas), Secretary (position currently not held), Treasurer (currently held by John Kritikos), University Liaison Officer (currently held by Simon Irrgang), Registration Officer (position currently not held).

The Superbowl party was held at the Universities Glasshouse Bar Monday 6th February (9:30am), where the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks. It was a lot of fun and good to see so many familiar faces.

UTS Gridiron is having a get-together at Paddington Bowls Club, Quarry St, Paddington (off Jersey Road), at 11:45am, Sunday 11th December. Bring $10 to play. Hope to see you all there!

Anyone watching the 2005 ARIA Awards on the tele would have spotted UTS Gridiron member and former head cheerleader, Andrea Gouveros, shining on the tele. When Australian Idol & Channel V host, James Mathison, approached our Rea on live national TV, she stated her name, and said she got into the ARIA’s by “winning tickets in a competition”. It was only 5 seconds of fame, but it’s more than most.
