‘Hit someone’. These two words were the theme of the day in this matchup. Coach Bosco yelled them to his side on the opening kickoff of the game, and boy did they listen. There were no easy yards on UTS (or on Bondi for that matter) in this highly physical contest, and UTS came away with a hard-fought victory, defeating the Bondi Raiders 38-14.

The Gators bounced back well after the tough week 2 loss against the Pirates by playing smash-mouth football. Tough running, efficient passing and terrific blocking by the o-line saw the offense find a grove and consistently move the chains against the Bondi D.

The Gator D on the other hand was just as tough, consistently getting into the Bondi backfield and making tackles for a loss on early downs. However to their credit, Bondi often found a way to get the tough yards on 3rd down and enter the red zone on numerous occasions. The defense may have bended, but it didn’t break until the team had built a comfortable lead, coming up with the necessary plays on multiple 4th and goals to keep Bondi out of the end zone and to get the ball back into the hands of the offense.

The play of the game was a terrific one-handed TD grab by TE Matt Schwarz, making a tough catch look easy for the score. Also, congratulations to HB Zac Li scoring his first Division 1 TD on a nice run, making several nice cuts on his way to the end zone.

The Gators responded well to the close loss of last week with a solid outing in this one, playing sound football in all phases to grind out the win. Hopefully they continue to play smart, physical football as the season progresses.
