UTS Division One Defensive Tackle, Wayne Smith, is now the proud father of a baby boy, Darcy Drew Smith. He was born on the 5th June 2006 at 8lbs, 52cm
long, and according to the man from the front lines, everything is going well.

Below are the initial dates set for the 2006 Division One program. As you can see, the first team meeting will be held on Thursday, 29th June at 7:15pm. All players who intend to play in the 2006 season should attend. Details are as follows:

Team Meeting
Date: Thursday 29th June 2006
Time: 7:15pm to 9:30pm
Venue: UTS Broadway (All players and Coaches to meet in the Foyer at 7:15pm)
Purpose: The purpose of this meeting is to establish the direction for UTS in 2006 and to assess areas of improvement. The Committee will also advise players of the fee structure and equipment hire logistics at this meeting.

Pre-Season
Practice Days: Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (18 practices in total)
First Practice Session: Tuesday 18th July
Time: 7:45pm to 9:45pm
Venue: Powells Creek Reserve, Concord West

Season
Practice Days: Tuesday & Thursday
First Game: September 2, 2006

Coach Andrew Douglas
Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator - Andrew has been involved with Gridiron since 1987, and returns in his second year as Head Coach of UTS. In 2005 UTS implemented the Spread Offense and is looking to build on the solid performances in 2006.

Coach Ese Enari
Defensive Coordinator - Ese has been involved with Gridiron since 1986, and returns in his third season with UTS. Ese has also been the Defensive Coordinator for NSW and Australian squads.

UTS Gridiron has decided to hold a paintball session leading into this years Div 1 pre-season.

Date: Sunday 4th June 2006
Where: Action Paintball Games
Address: Cnr Annangrove & Edwards Roads, Rouse Hill
Time: 08:45am to pay and get kitted out (Scheduled games start 10:00am)
Duration Time: 4hrs
Cost: $45 (this includes all your hire equipment, pro-carbine semi-auto paintball gun state of the art Jt Spectre goggle system camouflage overalls and 300 paintballs)
Additional costs: extra paintballs $20 per 100, $30 upgrade to the awesome icon Z tournament semi auto marker

UTS Gridiron played a great game against the undefeated Seahawks, but despite a valiant effort by UTS, the Hawks were too strong, winning 18-30. A huge congratulations goes to all the players and coaching staff for making it to the final. 2006 is the first season UTS Gridiron has ever made the grand final, so well done boys!

Huge congratulations goes out to the UTS Gridiron Colts for making the clubs’ first ever Grand Final appearance. The moment was meant to be after UTS defeated the Sydney Uni Lions in the playoffs. UTS will now take on the Seahawks in the Grand Final. Congratulations boys!

Division One defensive coach, Ese Enari, and his wife, Talafu, have a new family member - a very healthy baby boy named Marques Sarasopa Rohan Enari. Marques was born Wednesday the 19th April at 6:20pm, and weighs in at 9 pounds 14 ounces and 55cm long. Ese reckons he is already Linebacker material. All is well with everyone and it shouldn’t be long before we have him running around at training.

The UTS Clubs and Societies trivia night will be held on Wednesday May 10, in the Glasshouse Bar (UTS Broadway). Start time to be confirmed shortly. Entry is $5 per person, with eight people on a table. It’s a good night, trivia with cheap drinks, and supports the UTS Union. Prizes are also on offer. Please contact Simon Irrgang if you interested in attending by Thursday 27th. Friends & Family are welcome.
