Farewell to Head Coach Roger Rooney

UTS Gridiron takes this opportunity to again thank Roger and to wish him the best for his future endeavors. We understand that Roger is planning some travel this year.

The 1st Division 2000 season had its share of ups and downs. Players and Coach alike shared the highs, the lows, the big hits, the big blues and the big moments.

On Sunday, 10th December 2000 Roger steered UTS Gridiron to a 26 – 20 overtime win against the Pirates, which gave the club an opportunity to contest some post-season silverware. Gridiron Australia offered this account of the day:

The day opened with the Plate Final and a match up between the UWS Outlaws and UTS Gridiron. The Outlaws had been a dominant team, particularly in the early part of the season, while their UTS counterparts had shown signs of good form at various stages throughout the year, so many believed that this would be an even contest. And so it was in the early going, but UTS ultimately had no answer for the power running game of the Outlaws who rode their ground game on to an emphatic 22 – 0 win and their first ever title. (A recap of Season 2000 is in Facts & Figures on page 5.)

Roger’s legacy to UTS Gridiron is the promise of things to come.
